FIXING COUNTERTOPS IN YOUR KITCHEN

The best countertops that are available today in the market are the granite countertops. This is because granite is a stone that is hard, long lasting, and yet beautiful. They come in different colors like the black, white, beige and many other shades, which can suit almost every kitchen design. Though they are costlier compared to the wooden or the concrete ones, these countertops can be considered much more durable than all other types.

The granite countertops are not only costly to purchase, but also involves quite a good amount when it comes to the installation of the countertop in your kitchen. There are many other tasks similar to this, which can be done all by yourself, like fixing a curtain rad or making a wooden cupboard. But this is not something that can be done alone; you need a trained person to fix the countertop for you. This is quite essential, as trying to fix the countertops yourself can be quite a difficult task, and you may even end up breaking the granite slabs! Hence, it would be better to bring in a trained person who can carefully place the countertop in the right position.
Once you place the order for the counters, you can bring in the person who can help you to get the exact measurements for the size of the countertop required. They can actually provide you with a detailed plan of the whole structure. One point to be noticed here is that if the number of seams is less, the counter top would look much better. This is because the granite surface is quite smooth, and any small line on it, will show very clearly. Hence make it a point to keep the minimal number of seams in your plan.

Even the installation process of the counter tops has to be done very carefully. Before the countertop is installed, the granite slabs have to be leveled. This is because, even if utmost care is given in cutting the slabs, there may be some irregular areas on it. The leveling can remove these irregular areas, and provide a smooth surface. The top portion of the cabinetry should also be prepared to take the weight of the granite slabs. For this purpose, plywood pieces or metal pieces are added to it. This not only increases the strength of the cabinetry, but also provides good support to the granite slabs. Finally, after all the preparations have been made, the granite slabs should be cut using diamond cutters, and then fixed carefully over the cabinetry. While fixing them, care should be given not to break the slabs. After the fixing is done, the seams can finally be sealed and allowed to set, so that they adhere well to the surface.
